Marilyn is a series of limited edition, do-it-yourself boxed kits with complete instructions to a sequined portrait of Marilyn Monroe. The series was based on earlier installations like Rita Hayworth created for the 1996 Alberta Biennial and the concept was redesigned as a product for a commercial gallery. Fully assembled Marilyns in silver and mother-of-pearl were installed on one wall as floor models or artist's proofs. Pinned directly in the opposite wall were three smaller works of small sections pulled from the image to demonstrate an apartment sized installation. The project plays with notions of art as commodity and relies on the venacular of printmaking and photographic editioning and authentication.
